I just got back into my habit of daily stream of consciousness writing. I’ve been successful so far since I made time for it – journal at night on days that I commute to the office and journal in the morning during the remote days and the weekend. [Read: Is it better to journal in the morning or at night?].
It doesn’t take too much of my time – takes me between 15-30 minutes (or one vinyl record) to complete those three pages. I just really need to resist the temptation of doomscrolling or playing video games.
As I was enjoying my success with journaling, I found myself exploring my iPhone’s Journal app.
I do not write in long-form here; I cannot have my inner thoughts in my digital footprint – encrypted or not. I just use it to document routines like:
what I wore that day (which I just usually store in my Instagram stories)
my workouts
the music (or podcasts) I’ve listened to repeatedly
mood (if needed)
I also don’t spend too much time on the Journal app – all I literally do is save without writing or upload photos
I guess I treat it more as a collection of things I would like to look back at.
I feel that this has so much potential especially if some apps integrate with it. The apps that provide quick suggestions for me are:
Fitness
Spotify (music and podcasts)
Apple Music
Apple Podcasts
I’m pretty sure there are other journaling apps that could do better than Journal but this one is a nice journaling companion for me.
